But some fans think there never was a witch and that the family hallucinated due to contaminated grain and starvation.

    When three students journey into the woods to make a documentary, they soon become targets of a frightening entity in the forest. However, some fans believe that nothing paranormal was happening. Instead, they believe that the two male students brought Heather (Rel Hance) into the woods to murder her.

    In The Mist, a dense fog descends upon a small town after a dangerous storm. The townspeople never discover why exactly there is a deadly monster that lurks in the mist. Still, one character had a theory that some fans find accurate.

    Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden) tells others stuck in the grocery store that the mist is a punishment from God and claims it will go away if only given an innocent person to sacrifice. They never attempt this plan in the film, so we never know.

  • 4. Midsommar (2019)

    When a group of friends visits a remote village for a thesis project about their Midsommar festival, most of them end up brutally murdered.

    At the same time, Dani (Florence Pugh) joins the cult as the May Queen. One fan shares their theory about why exactly Dani and her friends went on the trip in the first place.

    The theory is that the cult seeks out Dani to recruit her to their cult. "Her family's murder was orchestrated by the cult, with all the events following afterward designed to break her to make her their latest member psychologically," they write.

    Oculus is about a family who encounters a haunted mirror that caused the parents' death ten years ago. In the present day, two siblings must face the mirror and come to terms with what happened to their parents while fighting for their sanity and their lives.

    Some fans believe the kids were never safe from the mirror, even after their parents died and the mirror moved to a new location. The reason Kaylie (Karen Gillan) brings the mirror back home wasn't her decision, but the mirrors.

  • 6. Saint Maud (2019)

    When a nurse undergoes a mysterious traumatic event, she soon becomes extremely religious as she dives into her Christian faith. As she treats her patients, she begins believing she must save them all from eternal damnation.

    Some fans of the movie think that the nurse's strange behavior is triggered by a neurological disease that may have been caused by the trauma from the film's beginning.

  • 7. The Exorcist (1973)

    The Exorcist follows a young girl named Regan (Linda Blair) who begins acting strange. Her frantic mother, desperate for solutions, seeks the help of a local priest to perform an exorcism and get her daughter back.

    Some fans think that Regan wasn't possessed but instead a victim of abuse. The priest refused to accept that Regan was abused because it would hurt his career.

    However, there is evidence in the film that the film director and Regan's babysitter Burke Dennings (Jack MacGowran), abused her.

  • 8. Smile (2022)

    This terrifying supernatural horror film follows a psychiatrist haunted by a strange entity after witnessing a patient take her own life. The mysterious demon appears in other people in her surroundings, putting a terrible smile on their faces.

    One fan alleges that "The Smile entity is passed onto another person through contact with the previous victim's blood during their act of taking their own life."

  • 9. Saw Franchise (2004-2023)

    The famous Saw movies are horror crime thrillers that follow the despicable murders of the villain Jigsaw and his underlings. One fan shared a theory about Jigsaw's specific career path and why it helped him set such dangerous and deadly traps.

    "It's a canon that Jigsaw is an engineer, but my theory is that he is a safety engineer specifically," they write, adding that he knows exactly what to look for in machines to ensure they cause physical harm.

    "Jigsaw knows the line that he walks when making machines if they are survivable. Later in the series, his apprentices technically made most of the traps, so that explains why they are more deadly."

  • 10. The Menu (2022)

    When a couple visits an elite restaurant on a private island for a dinner party, the guests have no idea they've walked into a nightmare. As guests are humiliated and killed off one by one, the audience learns more secrets about the host and guests at the party.

    At the end of the film, one of the guests is able to escape the fate of the others and eats a delectable cheeseburger in a faraway diner while the elite restaurant burns to the ground.

    One fan believes the whole point of the film was a ploy created by the Big Beef industry to sell more burgers.
