  • The Collector (2009) and The Collection (2012)

The Collector is about a sadistic criminal who traps his victims in their homes to torture and rob them. There are two movies in the series called The Collector and The Collection, and The Collected was in the works right before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world.

Fans of the series were dismayed to discover that the producers abandoned the project, so it doesn't look like the trilogy will get its third installment.

  • Creep (2014) and Creep 2 (2017)

Creep and Creep 2 are indie horror classics that use found footage to tell the story of a terrifying killer who hires videographers to torture and kill. Fans of the films are torn on whether or not they want to see Creep 3 come to fruition.

Some fans say there's nowhere else to go with the premise and that the first two films were excellent, so why risk making another film in the series? Other fans disagree, arguing that they'd love to see what the writers come up with.

  • Nightbreed (1990)

This horror fantasy film is about a man suffering from nightmares whose therapist frames him for murder. He gets killed by police but is soon reanimated by the monster who haunted his nightmares.

According to the film's creators, they originally planned to turn Nightbreed into a trilogy. Still, a lack of good marketing upon the first film's release prevented it from bringing in enough money and interest for the second installment. As a result, fans of the now cult classic are disappointed that they never got to see how the whole story unfolds.

  • The Void (2016)

The Void is a unique horror film about a police officer trapped at a hospital who believes the strange cloaked figures he sees surrounding the building have something to do with the terrifying events occurring throughout the hospital.

Fans of the film desperately crave a sequel or a prequel because they want to know more about the mysterious cult in the movie.

  • 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007)

This zombie horror series takes place in a universe where people became infected with the Rage virus, causing widespread societal collapse. The first film takes place twenty-eight days after the initial outbreak, while the second follows events further down the line at twenty-eight weeks.

Creators of the series recently hinted that the much-anticipated 28 Months Later may be in the works sometime in the near future, but there are no promises.

  • Hellraiser (2022)

Image Credit: Hulu and Paramount Pictures.

While the original Hellraiser (1987) is followed by six sequels, the 2022 Hellraiser is a complete reboot based on The Hellbound Heart novella released in 1986. Fans of the 2022 version crave a sequel because they want to know more about the Cenobites, a group of mysterious demonic entities from the film.

  • Thirteen Ghosts (2001)

Thirteen Ghosts is a remake of the 1960 film of the same title. It's about a family who moves into their late uncle's eccentric manor only to find that thirteen terrifying and unruly ghosts inhabit it.

Those who love the film want a sequel that dives into the backstories of each ghost in the house. Some even suggest an anthology series, where each installment focuses on the story of one ghost and her backstory.

  • Cloverfield (2008)

While Cloverfield was followed by two films that stay within the Cloverfield multiverse called 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), fans of the original Cloverfield wish the creators would make a true sequel to the first story. Many say the first film left the story open for a sequel and wonder why the creators opted to tell different stories in the universe rather than continue with the original that everyone loves.

  • Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

When aliens who look suspiciously like circus clowns crash land in a small town on Earth, they go on a rampage to kill and eat as many people as possible. While the film is now a cult classic, moviegoers weren't enthused at its initial release.

Followers of the film still hold out hope that the creators will come back with a sequel. However, there is some good news! The film inspired a video game called Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, which is slated for release in early 2023.

  • It Follows (2014)

When a teenager sleeps with her new boyfriend, she learns that he passed a terrifying entity over to her through sex. The entity slowly follows her wherever she is, forcing her to look over her shoulder constantly.

Those who enjoyed It Follows want a sequel because the film's premise is so intriguing, yet it barely scratched the surface of what the filmmakers can do with it.
