People go through a lot in a horror movie. They are trying to figure out what is happening; they are trying to survive, save the people they love, and then have to deal with loss and terror while trying to run away and cry simultaneously. Afterwards? Survivor's guilt. Going to therapy is very helpful and could be great for many people who live through an entire fright film. Obviously, we know that these aren't real people, but this is a good thought exercise that could help normalize the idea of asking for help when you need it.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
As Sally Hardesty, Marilyn Burns gets a fair amount of criticism as an actress for how much she screams in "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," but what else can you do when so much terror confronts you? She ends the film driving away from Leatherface and starts laughing and crying simultaneously in a very disturbed way. Yes, she could use some help.
The Mist (2007)
Thomas Jane, as David Drayton in Frank Darabont's version of "The Mist," has one of the worst fates in horror. The weight of his decision and then walking into the mist to sacrifice himself to find the rescue team had arrived is devasting. I don't know how you would deal with that without professional help.
The Exorcist (1973)
Linda Blair played Regan McNeil wonderfully, but the character has been through so much. She has a strong and supportive mother to help her, but she is so young, and people die because of the demon who possessed her. She may or may not remember what happened. Regan isn't responsible, but you can't deal with something like that without assistance.
Scream (1996)
Sidney Prescott is very strong to have not been destroyed by all the terrible things she has been through. She lost her mother and best friends and suffered betrayal after betrayal. She became a survivor helpline worker, so she realized therapy would be good for her.
Midsommar (2019)
Dani, played by Florence Pugh, could never catch a break. In a relationship with an emotionally unavailable man who wants to break up with her but is too cowardly, her sister kills her parents and herself. She goes on a trip with her boyfriend and his friends and is obviously unwelcome and uncared for. Then she falls in with a cult. This film gave me a day-long panic attack, so I can only imagine how terrible Dani might have felt.
Child's Play (1988)
Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay is another character that saw too much, much too young. Andy Barclay lost his mom, she was institutionalized after standing behind Andy's story, and Chucky keeps returning. He's strong, but having someone to talk about who he could trust couldn't hurt.
The Cell (2000)
She's only known as "Stargher's victim," but the woman who spends most of the runtime of "The Cell" in the glass cage waiting to drown needs therapy. Interestingly, a fan mentioned this character as someone who could use that help, and I thought they were right. Believing that a serial killer has trapped you and that you will die alone must damage you.
Pearl (2022)
Mia Goth as Pearl is a lovely and primarily gentle woman. Her problem is that she has an obsessive need to be famous and has difficulty accepting rejection due to her lack of a loving connection with her parents. I can relate. Therapy could help her.
Carrie (1976)
Amy Irving plays Sue Snell in Brian De Palma's "Carrie," she could probably use some counseling after genuinely trying to do something nice for Carrie White. Sue's good deed inadvertently sets up the opportunity for Chris Hargensen to take her revenge on Carrie, leading to many deaths. Even though Sue isn't responsible for that, she likely has a massive case of survivor's guilt.
Evil Dead (2013)
Jane Levy, as Mia, is one of the many characters in "Evil Dead" who could probably use some sessions with a therapist. She went to a cabin with her sister and close friends to detox from heroin, and then demons appeared. Demons possessed her, everyone she loved died, and she had to fight the Abomination and amputate her arm. That's a lot to deal with.
