Animation can do things that live-action can’t. There are no limits to what can be drawn, for better or worse. Both those ends of the horror spectrum lead one horror lover to ask others online which movies or ongoing franchises they think would be best suited to functioning as animated series. The responses aren’t surprising, but they offer some great pitches for how these animated adaptations could work and what they might look like.

  • Hellraiser (1987)

Some fans want to see Hellraiser’s cenobites and its mystical hell world ruled over by a god known as Leviathan in animated form. One notes that the animation should fit the content and be done in an “eldritch” style. Another user highlights that a Hellraiser series could also crossover with other properties by creator Clive Barker including…

  • Nightbreed (1990)

Another fan who wants to see Nightbreed brought into animation notes that “most characters are cartoony looking anyway.” That’s true and makes sense for a story about a fantastical city called Midian, unseen by most of humanity.

The animation wouldn’t just work well for the characters but would also allow the creators to bring the city to life in ways that were limited by the budget for the film.

  • Child’s Play (1988)

Several fans think Chucky and his family would make a very graceful shift into animation as their heightened features are perfect for the medium. One even thinks that “pretty much anything with dolls” would make for an excellent animated series.

  • Alien vs. Predator (2004)

Some fans think the extraterrestrial hunters from the Alien and Predator franchises would be perfect for animation. These creatures’ designs and gory exploits make them ideal for adapting to a visually limitless medium.

To make things even more exciting, one fan suggests that the series could extend the short-lived Alien vs. Predator franchise and bring the two titans of sci-fi horror into animated battle.

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Many fans, including the original poster, think the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise would make for a fantastic animated series. They say that animation would allow for some truly wild dream sequences and would create the opportunity for Robert Englund to reprise his role as Freddy Krueger as a voice actor despite his age.

  • The Thing (1982)

Like A Nightmare on Elm Street’s dream sequences, an animated version of The Thing would allow, as one fan puts it, “endless possibilities” to the body horror creativity. We may never see this come to be, but fans who are desperate for body horror animation may enjoy the anime Parasyte which features some fantastic The Thing-like body horror sequences.

  • Tremors (1990)

Two fans both call out the poor CGI in the ongoing Tremors franchise. One says that along with this series, “pretty much every live-action film ruined by poor CGI would probably work better animated as long as the art and animation are good.”

  • Cabin in the Woods (2011)

Multiple people are excited by the possibility of a Cabin in the Woods animated series that could tell different stories with each episode. One says every episode could feature a new voice cast, allowing beloved actors to do just one episode if they wanted.

  • Final Destination (2000)

Final Destination is another franchise that fans agree would make a great anthology TV series. One says Tony Todd could be “a narrator in a similar style to the crypt keeper.” Another fan recommends the anime Another, which centers on “a group of youngsters that try to escape an invisible force that tries to correct an error by killing the characters one by one in accidents.”
