We are in full-blown Chainsaw Awards mode over here and this week we are celebrating the shorts. Some of the short films nominated in this new category have been on the festival circuit and previously unavailable online. That makes voting a little tricky, so we’re bringing them to you right here, as we celebrate shorts week. So sit back, and enjoy this virtual screening room with a new nominated short film each day. And remember to get those votes in!

On our fourth day of celebrations, we bring you a sleepwalking roommate, brought to life by filmmaker Andy Chen. Here’s what Chen had to say:

“Close Your Eyes” was inspired originally by my friend’s real-life experiences with his roommate who started hearing voices. It was a really scary time for both of them and I thought it was a perfect idea for a spooky short film. Almost all of the dialogue was taken from real conversations they had. Originally I wrote a much longer version of this but I only had the time and money to make this version. But I’m so glad to have made it and I feel so honored to have my film, โ€œClose Your Eyes” nominated for a FANGORIA Chainsaw Award!ย

Check out more of Andy’s work, like his Shrek– inspired horror film “Fiona” right here. From “Close Your Eyes” to “Blink,” tomorrow we bring you Sophie Thatcher starring in a bit of hospital horror! And in case you missed it, you can get caught up on this week’s featured nominees right here. Stay tuned for more and vote for the 2023 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards!
