We are in full-blown Chainsaw Awards mode over here and this week we are celebrating the shorts. Some of the short films nominated in this new category have been on the festival circuit and previously unavailable online. That makes voting a little tricky, so we’re bringing them to you right here, as we celebrate shorts week. So sit back, and enjoy this virtual screening room with a new nominated short film each day. And remember to get those votes in!

“Meat Friend” is one of the weirdest, funniest films I’ve made, and I’m thrilled and honored to be nominated for Best Short in the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards!ย

I made it because Iย kinda just lost my mind during the pandemic. My other half Steve and I were out walking, coming up with strange ideas on what I could film next, and being so isolated during lockdown made us as weird as possible. It’s a co-creation; I directed and we both wrote and produced. He voiced and puppeteered as well. Essentially, it was a way to amuse ourselves. I like to say that we created a heightened reality to escape the hellscape we lived in.

This little DIY film is basically about a pile of hamburger meat (who looks like a skinless Cookie Monster) teaching inappropriate lessons to a child in the form of an Adult Swim-style TV show. The film has played fests around the world and I’m proud to say that it’s been an absolute joy to make people laugh so much. As a bonus, they also learn valuable life lessons, such as “What we do with snitches” and “How to make it look like an accident.” Enjoy!”
