Next month, for the first time, you can bring Jimmy Huston’s 1987 comedy horror My Best Friend is a Vampire home to your physical media shelves, as Lionsgate are bringing the lovable cult classic to Blu-ray and digital on July 25.
Starring Robert Sean Leonard (Dead Poets Society), Renรฉ Murat Auberjonois (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), David Warner (The Omen) and Oscar winner Kathy Bates (Misery), My Best Friend is a Vampire is fondly remembered for its themes of sexuality, gender, prejudice and growing up. The official press release gives us the plot low-down for those who haven’t seen the film:
Return to Milton High School in this beloved ’80s teen comedy now available on Blu-ray for the first time. Shortly after high school student Jeremy Capello (Leonard) goes on a hot date, he finds he canโt stand garlic and canโt see his reflection in mirrors, but he can make a delicious raw-steak shake. As maniacย vampireย hunter Professor McCarthy (Warner) stakes him out, Jeremy just wants to pursue his high school crush.
