Next month brings us the next chapter in the long-running A Quiet Place franchise, Michael Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place: Day One. As its title would imply, this entry is a prequel, one which will give us a nice, long look at what happened on the day this series’ sound-hating aliens crash-landed on Earth and started effing up the place. Sure, we’ve seen glimpses of that initial attack in previous A Quiet Place movies, but nothing to the extent we’ll see here.
Just look at this new trailer, which shows off more of the invasion and its immediate aftermath than we’ve ever seen before:
As you can see, Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place: Day One stars Lupita Nyongโoย (Us),ย ย Joseph Quinnย (Stranger Things), Alex Wolffย (Hereditary) and Djimon Hounsou, who’ll be reprising the role he played in A Quiet Place Part II. Guess we know that he’ll be making it out alive, at least!
In the film, Nyong’o plays Sam, a woman whose day trip to New York City gets violently interrupted by the arrival of the same creatures that terrorized John Krasinski, Emily Blunt and others in the first two A Quiet Place movies. As she attempts to escape the city with her life intact, Sam finds herself joining forces with Joseph Quinn’s Eric to navigate their way out of the city as things fall apart. From the looks of the trailer above, that will be a very perilous journey, indeed.
Sarnoski previously directed the excellent Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, and apparently A Quiet Place: Day One is based on an original idea he hatched with Krasinski, who launched the franchise back in 2018. Krasinski, by the way, is expected to return to the franchise with a new installment that will follow the events of A Quiet Place Part II, but as of this writing it appears that nothing’s officially gone into motion on that front.
Will A Quiet Place: Day One stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the previous entries in the franchise? Only time will tell, but from the looks of this trailer…we’re thinking the odds are pretty damn good! And, hey, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out for sure: A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters on June 28th, which is right around the corner. Stay tuned for further updates on this one (and, indeed, any future A Quiet Place movies that might be on the horizon) as they become available, folks!
