Heads up, Abigail fans: according to a press release we just received at FANGORIA HQ…

“The horror-fan-favorite director duo, Radio Silence, returns to deliver a new vision of vampires in ABIGAIL, available for the first time exclusively on digital platforms where you can buy or rent beginning tomorrow, May 7, 2024, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and regarded as ‘a Bloody Blast’ (The Detroit News), directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillet elevate the vampire genre challenging expectations at every blood-stained corner.”

Yes, that’s right: Abigail, the latest from Ready or Not and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, is already headed for digital. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to buy or rent the film and watch it from the comfort of your own couch!

Abigail hit theaters on April 19th, racking up an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and roughly $35M at the worldwide box office. A tidy sum, to be sure, but that total indicates that audiences didn’t flock to see this one in theaters. Perhaps now that it’s headed to digital, it’d find the audience it definitely deserves.

In the film…

“A heist team is hired by a mysterious fixer to kidnap the daughter of a powerful underworld figure. They must guard the 12-year-old ballerina for one night to net a $50 million ransom. As the captors start to dwindle one by one, they discover to their mounting terror that they’re locked inside an isolated mansion with no ordinary little girl.”

Abigail stars Melissa Barrera (Scream VI, In The Heights) and Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Freaky, Lisa Frankenstein), as well as Dan Stevens (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Downton Abbey), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Usual Suspects, Parish), Alisha Weir (Roald Dahlโ€™s Matilda, Donโ€™t Leave Home), Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Robin Hood), the late Angus Cloud (Your Lucky Day, Euphoria), and William Catlett (A Thousand and One, Lovecraft County).

On the one hand, it’s great that films end up making the trip from theaters to digital in such a rapid manner these days; for those of us who find it difficult to get out to theaters as frequently as we’d like to, it’s a great option to have in one’s back pocket. On the other hand, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to these rapid-fire turnaround times. Why, back in my day, we had to wait months for movies to make their way from theaters to home video! Wild stuff.

Anyway, Abigail hits digital tomorrow, so that’s your plans for the evening sorted! Stay tuned for more on Radio Silence and Abigail as further updates roll in.
