Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited sequel to 2010’s Alan Wake, is one of the most highly anticipated horror titles of 2023. Featuring a bigger cast of characters, all new locations, and some of the most eyeball-meltingly beautiful graphics we’ve seen all year, it really does seem like this one will have been well worth the wait … but we’ll have to wait a few more months to know for sure!
In the meantime, Remedy released a brand-new Alan Wake 2 trailer yesterday during this year’s big Gamescom Opening Night showcase, and it’s a lively one: combining live-action footage with in-game footage (a reality bending trick that Remedy has used to profoundly unsettling effect in some of its other titles), it also shows us that the Alan Wake of 2023 may be even more haunted and messed up than the Alan Wake we met all the way back in 2010.
Let’s take a look…
On the one hand, we’re not entirely sure we’ve wrapped our heads around everything going on in this trailer – like any good nightmare, the throughline can be a wee bit difficult to follow. On the other hand, everything here looks gorgeous, and it’s clear that Remedy’s put a helluva lot of love into this beloved (cult?) character’s return. We cannot wait to get our hands on it!
As was recently revealed, Alan Wake 2 will be arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 27th, a brief 10 days later than previously reported (Listen, if you’ve gotta delay your AAA video game release and it’s only by a week and a half, no problem). It will not, however, be arriving on store shelves: as we learned back in May, Alan Wake 2 is a digital-only release.
Stay tuned for more on Alan Wake 2 as further updates roll in.
