Don't turn around... Cailee Spaeny in ALIEN: ROMULUS

Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus – one of our most anticipated horror movies of 2024 – hits theaters on Friday, August 16, with a new featurette today bringing some shiny new footage.

Starring Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun) and Aileen Wu, the R-rated sci-fi horror will also be playing in glorious IMAX, big enough you can practically feel the Xenomorph’s drool on your face.

In Alien: Romulus:

While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Today’s new featurette confirms that the standalone Romulus takes place between Ridley Scott’s 1979 original Alien and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens, and has been described as an amalgamation of both.

Excitingly, Jonsson also goes into detail of the practical nature of the movie, commenting on the lack of green screens, and that every creature was built from the ground up. Gulp.

Scott himself is a producer on the upcoming film and has described it as “fucking great”, while a new interview today from Fandango sees the two directors sit down to talk about their respective takes on telling the Alien story, with Scott confirming that Romulus is “a huge movie.”

Of course, anyone who’s seen Álvarez’s take on similarly-beloved franchise Evil Dead won’t doubt this for a second.

Tickets for Alien: Romulus are now on sale – and don’t forget to grab the upcoming issue of FANGORIA for more exclusive Romulus content.
