Here at FANGORIA, we’re excited whenever Fede Álvarez makes a new horror movie. For one thing, the average Álvarez joint tends to be fairly mean-spirited and nasty, not to mention gory – three things we always appreciate. For another, even when his swings don’t entirely connect with the ball, there still tends to be plenty of weirdness happening in the margins. Now Álvarez has gone and made his very own Xenomorph movie, Alien: Romulus, and we cannot wait to see what he’s done with it.
The good news is, we won’t have to wait much longer: Alien: Romulus lands in theaters on August 16th, and today we’re getting our very first look at the film via this just-released teaser trailer. Check it out…
Hot damn, that looks great! Everything here looks of a piece with the Alien franchise, from the dank interiors of whatever spaceship/space station Romulus‘ action is set on to the facehuggers skittering across the ground. While the teaser is obviously very light on plot details, this synopsis sheds a little light on things:
“The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Alien: Romulus stars Isabela Merced (Sweet Girl), Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times at the El Royale), David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman) and Aileen Wu (Away From Home). It was co-written by Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues and, as mentioned up top, will hit theaters on August 16th. Stay tuned for further updates on this one as they become available, folks!
