Brooklyn 45, the new supernatural Shudder original from We Are Still Here‘s Ted Geoghegan, gets its first trailer today ahead of the film’s June 9 streaming debut – and this is one you’re gonna want to get in those diaries right away.
Starring Anne Ramsay (A League of Their Own), Ezra Buzzington (The Hills Have Eyes), Jeremy Holm (The Ranger), Larry Fessenden (We Are Still Here), Ron E. Rains and Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Brooklyn 45 is a WWII set terror that follows:
Five military veterans gather in the ornate parlour of a Brooklyn brownstone. Best friends since childhood, they’ve reunited to support their troubled host–but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance, the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all-too-literal. Trapped in their host’s lounge, the Greatest Generation now finds themselves put to one final test, with their only route to freedom being more bloodshed.
Since premiering at SXSW, Brooklyn 45 has been racking up some stellar reviews, with Paste Magazine calling it “One of the most rewarding and impressive genre films of the year”, and The Playlist describing it as “A unique, chilling story about the horrors of war and unsettling depths of humanity.”
We’re reminded of this quote from Geoghegan’s interview with The Austin Chronicle, in which the Mohawk director reminds us that while séances are scary, that’s nothing compared to the real-life horror of war:
I wanted to make a film that liberal pacifists like myself could watch and go, ‘Fuck, war is hell, and it really does destroy people.’ But I also wanted people who are veterans, like my father and other people that I respect and admire, I want them to watch this film and go, ‘This is a nuanced look at what it’s like returning from the front.’
The film is a co-production between Shudder, Raven Banner, Hangar 18 Media, Divide/Conquer, and The Line Film Company.
