Apartment 7A, a prequel to the 1968 Roman Polanski horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, hits Paramount+ exclusively on September 27, and Vanity Fair have today debuted some fresh first look images in anticipation.

From director Natalie Erika James (Relic),ย Apartment 7A stars Julia Garner (Ozark,ย Zach Cregger’s upcomingย Weapons, Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Wolf Man) as Terry, a character from the original film who befriends Mia Farrow’s Rosemary after she moves into her new New York City apartment. Inย Apartment 7A:

โ€œWhen a struggling, young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.โ€

You probably remember that in the seminal psychological horror film based on Ira Levin’s novel of the same name, Terry, a troubled young woman, is taken in by Minnie and Roman Castevet, Rosemary’s seemingly-kindly elderly neighbors.

Vanity Fair elaborate on the story of the Rated-R prequel:

Terry (played in the original by Angela Dorian) is a young woman who crosses paths with Rosemary in the basement laundry room of The Bramford. Terry explains that the Castevets rescued her from homelessness and drug abuse, taking her into their lives and giving her free room and board.

Alongside Garner,ย Apartment 7A stars Dianne West and Kevin McNally as the Castevets respectively, along with Jim Sturgess and Marli Siu.

Undertaking a prequel to such a classic as Rosemary’s Baby is undoubtedly a daunting task, but anyone who’s seen the hauntingย Relic knows that James has the horror chops to pull it off.

In a statement to Vanity Fair, James expressed her own motivation for taking on such a feature:

โ€œWhen I first was approached about the project, I was very dubious […] For sure, I never wouldโ€™ve signed on to do a remake of such a classic and seminal film. But itโ€™s been a joy to be able to play within the world and the sandbox of Ira Levinโ€™s novel and also play with the characters. I guess my motivation for taking it on was feeling like there was a different emotional journey to be explored and to do it in a way that skewed the genre a little bit.โ€

Apartment 7A was directed from a screen story by Skylar James and a script by Natalie Erika James, Christian White and Skylar James. The film is executive produced by Vicki Dee Rock and Alexa Ginsburg, and is produced by John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, p.g.a, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, p.g.a, and Brad Fuller.

We’ll see you at the Bramford on September 27 – now let’s dive into these new stills from Vanity Fair…
