Ari Aster’s weird, nightmarish, and challenging Beau is Afraid landed in theaters back in April and immediately became one of the year’s most divisive films. Was it richly detailed, elementally frightening, and Aster’s true masterpiece? Or was it overlong, too abstract for its own good, and the first real creative misfire from the director of Hereditary and Midsommar? As you probably already know, the answer depends on who you ask!

Sadly, this writer did not get a chance to catch Beau is Afraid when it was in theaters. Thankfully, I – and anyone else who didn’t find the time a few months back – will not be waiting to do so much longer: according to the good folks at Bloody Disgusting, Aster’s latest will hit Blu-ray and digital on July 11th.

The downside? Doesn’t sound like the edition arriving on the 11th contains much in the way of bonus features. Included is a making-of featurette called “Finally Home: Making Beau is Afraid” and … that’s it. Perhaps they’re holding onto the more elaborate special features for a 4K release, or some as-yet-unannounced special edition. Guess we’ll have to wait and see on that front!

Anyway, I’m looking forward to finally finding out which side of the Beau is Afraid debate I will fall on come July 11th. Stay tuned for more on this release if and when further updates become available!
