As you almost certainly know by now, Chris McKay’s Renfield lands in theaters this weekend, and the hype levels surrounding the film are running very high, indeed. Nicholas Hoult as the put-upon assistant to Nic Cage’s Count Dracula? Ben Schwartz as the doofus leader of a gang called the Lobos? Gallons upon gallons (upon gallons) of blood? Sounds like our kinda movie.

Given how close we are to the film’s release, you might’ve been thinking Renfield‘s marketing campaign had reached its natural conclusion – but not so! Following in the recent footsteps of Cocaine Bear, McKay’s film is the inspiration behind a brand new tie-in game that just landed on Steam, Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood.

Here’s how Skybound Games, the company behind Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood, describe the experience:

Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood is a single-player bug-powered adventure that combines the simplicity of one-touch gameplay with frenetic, room-based action for a new roguelite experience. With unique stages, dozens of enemies, diabolical bosses and enough weapons for a bloody good rampage, Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood shows you the ups and downs of being the #1 employee of the most demanding boss in history – Dracula.

What’s that look like in action? Let’s take a look…

Pretty nifty! If you’re at all familiar with the game Vampire Survivors, you might be experiencing a little deja vu here: Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood seems to be heavily inspired by that title, with Renfield himself positioned as the hero at the heart of Skybound Games’ bullet-hell experience. The graphics look a bit more polished, maybe, but Vampire Survivors players will know what to do here: stay in constant motion, kill everything you can, avoid those enemy attacks.

Another thing worth noting: Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood is currently in Early Access on Steam, and will be updated with more “story, weapons, levels and bosses” before its final launch later this year. Head on over to the link above to start practicing, and don’t forget that Renfield hits theaters this weekend, on April 14th!
