The film follows a suburban divorcée (Tammin Sursok, Pretty Little Liars) masquerading as her teenage daughter (Monroe Cline, Teardrop) in a twisted attempt to make the dance squad at a local high school. Described as a ’90s vibe meets Mean Girls with a mother-daughter twist inspired by true events, Blood, Sweat, and Cheer has all the fun of cheerleading and high school wrapped up in a dark comedy.
Director Traci Hays says, “Inspired by real events, Blood, Sweat, and Cheer encapsulates what it means to be young at heart…. or rather pretending to be a high school cheerleader again. I was drawn to this campy, over-the-top, self-aware, dark comedy because of its twists and turns that follow a flawed and fierce female lead with something to prove. It’s a nostalgic classic high school tale reminiscent of films like Heathers, Mean Girls, The Breakfast Club, and Clueless.” Let’s take a look at the official trailer.
Wow, we’re getting Never Been Kissed but make it horrorific vibes. We don’t know what lengths this mom will go to to make her dance team dreams come true, but either way we are in for this undoubtedly dark ride. Hays adds, “Frank summed up the tone of the film perfectly, ‘You can go to extremes, with impossible schemes, you can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams…’ I’m beyond thrilled to share this dark thriller comedy with you and hope you enjoy a few laughs along the way!” Blood, Sweat, and Cheer is coming to Tubi Saturday, April 15.
