Here’s a wild way to start the week: according to a new report at the PlayStation Lifestyle blog, FromSoftware’s Bloodborne may be the next video game adapted for the big screen.
Says PlayStation Lifestyle:
“According to DanielRPK โ whoโs generally considered reliable albeit for their Marvel leaks โ the movieโs script will be penned by Darren Lemke. Lemkeโs writing credits include Goosebumps, Shazam!, and Gemini Man, among others. Itโs further claimed that Bloodborne will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, best known for producing G.I. Joe and the Transformers series.”
DanielRPK, for those unfamiliar with the name, is a known scooper whose efforts generally revolve around the goings-on within the superhero genre. Like all scoopers, his work tends to be hit-or-miss … though it’s worth noting that, on the whole, his scoops have resulted in more hits than misses. Of course nothing’s been made official yet, but for the time being we might do well to consider this a “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire”-type situation.
Bloodborne, for those who haven’t had the pleasure of playing the game, is one of FromSoftware’s finest efforts. The game combines From’s penchant for oblique storytelling with a cosmic horror bent – imagine Dark Souls by way of H.P. Lovecraft and you won’t be too far off. Bringing the game’s insane visuals to the big screen would be a complicated (and presumably very expensive) endeavor, though the real hurdle in adapting Bloodborne might lie in streamlining its narrative. Assuming the above rumor is true, screenwriter Darren Lemke’s got quite a bit of work ahead of him.
Make no mistake: we’d love for this particular rumor to be true, but again, for the time being it remains a rumor. Stay tuned for further updates on the alleged Bloodborne movie as they become available.
