Blumhouse and Sony Pictures have today dropped the first trailer for AfrAId, a science-fiction horror pic directed and written by Chris Weitz (American Pie, About A Boy) set for release in theaters on August 30.
Previously titled They Listen, AfrAId stars John Cho (Star Trek, Searching, The Grudge) and Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant, the upcoming Fear Street: Prom Queen) and renters on a family plagued by some terrifyingly timely technology.
A full synopsis reads:
In AFRAID, Curtis (Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing – and no one – gets in her family’s way.
Also starring with Cho and Waterston are Riki Lindhome (Wednesday, The Wolf of Snow Hollow) and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, No Exit).
Jason Blum and Weitz produce through their Blumhouse Productions and Depth of Field banners respectively, alongside Andrew Miano.
AfrAId was originally set for release a full year ago on August 25, 2023.
