A Light Most Hateful, the upcoming horror novel from Bram Stoker award-winner Hailey Piper is getting a film adaptation, Deadline reported exclusively today.
Lonetree Entertainment’s Tony Eldridge (producer of The Equalizer films) has optioned film rights to Piper’s upcoming novel, which will join her impressive bibliography, alongside the 2021 Bram Stoker-winning Queen of Teeth, The Worm and His Kings, Your Mind Is a Terrible Thing, Unfortunate Elements of My Anatomy, Benny Rose the Cannibal King, The Possession of Natalie Glasgow and No Gods for Drowning.
According to Deadline, the upcoming novel from Titan Books;
…is billed as a terrifying survival horror full of haunting friendships in which the female experience turns monstrous. The story focuses on Olivia, who having fled home three years prior is stuck in a dead-end job in nowhere Chapel Hill, PA with her best friend Sunflower. That’s until a night storm crashes into town with a mind-bending monster in tow. If Olivia’s going to survive the night to someday reconcile with her parents, she needs to dodge residents enslaved by the storm’s otherworldly powers and find Sunflower. But as the night strains friendships and reality itself, Olivia suspects the storm, and its monster, may have more to do with Sunflower than anything else.
Eldridge described A Light Most Hateful as “edgy and scary as hell” as well as describing Piper as “one of the most unique and imaginative voices in contemporary horror.”
The news of A Light Most Hateful is the latest exciting development in the world of horror-fiction-to-film-adaptations this year, following the announcement of M. Night Shyamalan’s A Knock at the Cabin (based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by fellow Bram Stoker Award-Winner Paul Tremblay) and the success of Scott Derrickson’s adaptation of Joe Hill’s The Black Phone.
