Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmakers behind last year’s terrifying smash hit Talk To Me, are teaming back up with genre giants A24 for their next horror Bring Her Back, with Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) set to star.
Deadline, who bought us the news exclusively earlier today, report thatBring Her Back is heading into production this summer, and plot details are still tightly under wraps.
Bring Her Back is the latest confirmed project from the Philippou brothers (known online as RackaRacka), the other being the hugely anticipated Talk to Me sequel, the ingeniously titled Talk 2 Me. There’s also a confirmed Talk to Me prequel already shot and ready to go, which we’re still waiting on further news about.
The Aussie filmmaking duo are a hot ticket right now, given that Talk to Me was a huge success, critically and financially, racking up a worldwide box office total of $92 million on a $4.5 million budget. At the time of writing, the film officially stands as A24’s biggest horror box office hit.
Handling production on Bring Her Back are Talk To Me duo Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton from Causeway Films, whose credits also include The Babadook and The Nightingale. Also behind the scenes, Deadline let us know that “Bring Her Back may or may not be on A24’s sales slate for Cannes. The studio is still aligning its priority pre-sales projects.” Sounds promising…?
English actress Hawkins is no stranger to the genre game herself, having of course starred in Guillermo del Toro’s romantic dark fantasy The Shape of Water (for which she received an Oscar nomination), and has also been part of the Warner Bros. MonsterVerse, starring as Vivienne Graham in 2014’s Godzilla and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Needless to say, Bring Her Back just shot straight to the top of our most-anticipated list – we’ll bring you any and all updates as and when we get them!
