The folks at Games by Stitch have released a new trailer for their upcoming VR horror game, Broken Spectre. The game is due to release for the Oculus Quest 2 and looks to put the player squarely in the middle of the action. What is the action, in this case? A trip to a deranged national park where a girl searches for her lost dad. Naturally, that trip takes a few really messed up turns. Letโ€™s have a look.

Even as a trailer, itโ€™s entertainingly framed. Using the whole โ€œad for a national parkโ€ thing to showcase the horror of it all is fun. It looks very much like an explorative puzzle game, with the added benefit (?) of making it feel immersive as a VR experience. Granted, VR games are not nearly as popular as console games at this point, but for those who dig this sort of thing, it looks like it could be a wild ride. Sadly, VR tends to make me sick, so I wonโ€™t get to enjoy this one, though it does otherwise look up my alley, which is kind of a shame. But I digress. The official synopsis for the game reads as follows:

โ€œIn Broken Spectre, players take on the role of Casey, a strong-headed adventurer haunted by her troubled family history. Twenty-five years ago your biologist father entered the treacherous wilderness of Coldblood Mountain National Park and never came back. When you learn he may still be alive, youโ€™re compelled to find him. Breaking into the closed park to track his path, you instead find his mutated experiments. Climbing to higher and more dangerous elevations, you face worsening weather, deadly frostbite, and grotesque horrors. Trapped in the mountainโ€™s maze, you wonder, is time distorting your reality, or are you going mad from altitude sickness? As you collect gruesome clues, decipher cryptic puzzles, and perform cult rituals, you delve deeper and deeper into family traumas in this mystical slow-burn horror story.โ€

This is the first horror game from Games by Stitch. The studioโ€™s other games include the puzzle platformer Terrorarium and the mixed-reality VR escape room game Flow Weaver. The game is executive produced by Mike Monello, who was actually a producer of 1999โ€™s groundbreaking found footage hit The Blair Witch Project. Monello had this to say about it:

โ€œVR allows for unprecedented immersion and Broken Spectre takes full advantage of that. As you uncover the chilling realities of Cold Blood Mountain, youโ€™ll be consumed by a deeply personal cosmic horror story that will occupy the darkest recesses of your mind.โ€

Broken Spectre does not yet have a release date but is billed as โ€œcoming soon,โ€ so keep your eyes peeled.
