Good news for Cronenberg Family fans: Caitlin Cronenberg (daughter to David, sister to Brandon) has made the leap from music videos to feature films, and her first film, Humane, is headed to theaters this April thanks to the good folks at IFC Films.
According to Variety, Humane is a “dystopian satire taking place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earthโs population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nationโs new euthanasia program. But when the fatherโs plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare and chaos erupts among his children.โ
Humane‘s cast includes Jay Baruchel (This Is the End), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek) and Peter Gallagher (House on Haunted Hill). It will hit theaters on April 26th before landing on Shudder sometime later this year. Variety’s announcement includes an interview with Cronenberg which finds the director downplaying Humane‘s status as “straight up” horror (she says it’s more of a “violent drama”), but all signs point to this one being right in our wheelhouse: a dark sense of humor, bloody violence, and a bit of sharp social commentary. We’ll take it!
Nothing further to report on Humane at this time, but rest assured we’ll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned for those, as well as for the film’s first trailer, which we imagine will be along sooner rather than later.
