Takashi Shimizu, director of legendary Japanese Ju-On franchise (and also the American remake titled The Grudge) is back to creep us all out with his upcoming feature Immersion.
There’s no English trailer available for Immersion just yet, but the plot synopsis reads as follows:
Mysterious deaths befall on employees of a VR-tech company. Thereโs an unprecedented fear waiting between reality and the virtual world.
The trailer has all the hallmarks of a J-horror classic; chilling atmosphere, long-haired onryล-esque female figure and some highly unnerving croaking sounds. The link between ‘reality and the virtual world’ has also been explored in numerous modern Japanese horrors, from the viral video tape curse in Hideo Nakata’s Ringu, the cellphone chime in Takashi Miike’s One Missed Call, and the Internet ghosts in Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Pulse.
You can catch Shimizu’s Ju-On series currently streaming on Arrow Player, and his more recent offering SUICIDE FOREST VILLAGE over on SCREAMBOX. While we wait to find out more news about IMMERSION, check out the trailer below and also the HUGELY creepy artwork found over at Immersion’s official website:
