Your friend till the end is coming home in the form of a brand new, jam-packed 4K box set. The folks at Arrow Video have announced a Child’s Play box set that is quite comprehensive, containing every move in the franchise – and then some – as well as a ton of bonus features. There is, however, a bit of a downside, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
Dating back to Chucky’s big screen debut in 1988, the new set comes with all seven movies including Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. Not only that, but the set even includes the documentary Living with Chucky. Just about the only thing it doesn’t contain is the TV show, which is currently airing on USA Network and Syfy, and the 2018 remake. We’ve got a look at the box art for you below. As for what’s inside? Here’s a breakdown of what’s included:
- Limited edition deluxe packaging featuring newly commissioned artwork by Mark Bell
- Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the films by John-Paul Checkett, Kat Ellinger, Barry Forshaw, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Cerise Howard, and select archival material
- Three double-sided fold-out posters featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Mark Bell
- 4K UHD discs – Region Free
- Blu-ray discs – Region B
Each disc is absolutely loaded with special features, with most of the movies on 4K Ultra HD, meaning you can watch Chucky dispatch his victims in high definition. The only downside is that the original Child’s Play and Living With Chucky are only on Blu-ray and, as Arrow notes, those are Region B discs. That means only Region B players can play them and most Blu-ray players sold in North America won’t get the job done. This is very similar to Arrow’s recent Psycho collection.
Luckily, the 4K discs are all region-free, so this might still be worth the investment for certain fans. Also, for those who have region-free Blu-ray players, this also won’t be an issue. And, for certain fans, this may be a good excuse to finally pick up a region-free player. The set retails for £119.99, or about $146 but it’s currently available to pre-order for £100.00, or around $122. It is intended to be a “U.K. only” release but for those willing to pay the extra shipping or get creative, that shouldn’t be a problem.
The Arrow Video Child’s Play box set is set to arrive on December 11. For a full list of special features or to pre-order a copy, head on over to ArrowFilms.com.
