Chucky has gone just about everywhere in his 35 years of existence. The killer doll even made it to the White House in the Chucky season 3. Is there nothing left for the slasher icon to conquer here on Earth? If so, the Childโ€™s Play franchise can always look to the stars and boldly go where only a few horror franchises have gone before. This, according to creator Don Mancini, who has heard your please to send Chucky to space and has addressed them once again. In short, if people want it to happen badly enough, it will happen.

Mancini recently spoke with Screen Rant at the Saturn Awards and the outlet asked the filmmaker about bringing Chuky to space. This is something that has been asked before and itโ€™s something Mancini has put more than a little thought into. This time, he explained that it all comes down to what the fans want. Hereโ€™s what he had to say about it:

โ€œEveryoneโ€™s asking me that question! So, MY question is, โ€˜Do you want him to go to space?โ€™ Do you personally want him to go? If thereโ€™s enough of a demand for that, eventually – I donโ€™t know how quickly – I have an idea for that.โ€

Child's Play (1988)

Before that can happen, we at least have to get through the second half of Chucky season 3 this year. Beyond that, who knows? It has been quite some time since the original killer doll starred in a movie. Yes, we had the 2019 remake (which is getting a 4K release this year), but the last time the original Chucky was in a feature-length project was 2017โ€™s Cult of Chucky. So itโ€™s high time he made a return to cinematic endeavors, and taking him to space would be one heck of a way to go about it.

Other slashers have gone to space in the past, such as Jason Voorhees in Jason X and Leprechaun in Leprechaun 4: In Space. Why not Chucky? As for the how of it all, Mancini addressed that briefly in 2017 on The Movie Crypt podcast. โ€œYou know how sometimes, like, kids will present a space shuttle crew with like, some totemic experiment or mascot or whatever? Chucky…Chucky in Space.” That gives us some idea of what Mancini is thinking.

Whether or not this is actually in the cards remains to be seen. The character is certainly still popular and itโ€™s been a long time since a slasher franchise has gone to space. While it may seem like jumping the shark for other franchises, it doesnโ€™t seem like too much of a stretch for this one. Want to see it happen? Make your voices heard!

Chucky season 3 is due to return later this year.
