Here’s some not-terribly-surprising news: according to Variety, franchise mainstay Courtney Cox is in talks to join the cast of Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7. Cox, as you surely already know, has long played Gale Weathers in the Scream films, though with Williamson at the helm and Neve Campbell in the mix for this one, this particular outing feels like something of a classic reunion.

This is, of course, the second iteration of Scream 7. The first version, to be helmed by Happy Death Day‘s Chris Landon, more or less imploded a few months ago when star Melissa Barrera was fired for social media posts concerning the ongoing Israeli/Palestine conflict, posts which Scream producers deemed to be antisemitic. Shortly thereafter, Jenna Ortega dropped out of the film, only to be quickly followed by Landon himself.

This new version of Scream 7, as noted above, is set to be directed by original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson, and will include the return of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. How (or if) the franchise plans to resolve any plot threads left dangling by Scream VI remains to be seen.

Nothing further to report on Scream 7 at this time, but rest assured we’ll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned for those, folks.
