Fans of supernatural monsters and practical creature effects, rejoice! The folks at Scream Factory have announced that cult favorite Pumpkinhead is coming to 4K Ultra HD later this year. Whatโ€™s more, the company is giving hardcore fans the opportunity to grab a fully loaded collectorโ€™s edition set that includes plenty of extra goods for the money. But for those who simply want to watch the film in 4K, thatโ€™s an option as well.

Scream Factory is releasing Pumpkinhead in 4K on October 10, 2023, just in time for Halloween! There will be the standard collectorโ€™s edition that comes with a 4K Ultra HD copy and a Blu-ray copy. Also, those who order directly from ShoutFactory.com will get an 18×24 poster with the original theatrical artwork. As for the more impressive collectorโ€™s edition, it also comes with the poster as well as a prism sticker, lobby cards and enamel pins from Gutter Garbs. Have a look-see for yourself.

The standard 4K release currently is going for $35.99 but retails for $39.99. As for the collectorโ€™s set, that retails for $145.97, but currently is available for pre-order for $139.99. Also of note, the larger set is limited to 500 units, so those who are truly interested in picking one up would do well not to wait. Scream Factory has yet to announce the specific specs and bonus features for the release, but even the 2020 steelbook had a very solid lineup in that department. So one imagines they will go even harder for the 4K release.

Legendary visual effects artist Stan Winston directed Pumpkinhead, which originally hit theaters in 1988. Starring the equally legendary Lance Henriksen, of Aliens fame, the movie didnโ€™t perform particularly well in theaters at the time. It has, however, since been embraced by horror fans as one of the underrated gems of the late โ€˜80s. The creature effects, in particular, are very noteworthy. For those who made need a refresher, the synopsis for the film reads as follows:

โ€œWhen a group of teenagers inadvertently kill his only son, Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen) goes to a witch who invokes Pumpkinhead, a monstrously clawed demon answering only to Edโ€™s bloodlust.โ€

A direct-to-video sequel, Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, was released in 1994. More recently, there have been attempts to produce a reboot, with Paramount Players working on the project as of late 2021, though few updates have been provided on the project since. So this new Ultra HD version of the original will have to do in the meantime.

Pre-order Pumpkinhead on 4K now by heading to ShoutFactory.com.
