According to a new report over at Deadline, Zak Hilditch (director of the excellent Stephen King adaptation 1922) will next direct We Bury the Dead, a survival thriller set to star Daisy Ridley.

Here’s how they’re describing the film:

“The film is a story about grief, loss and the undead. Ridley plays Ava, a desperate woman whose husband is missing in the aftermath of a catastrophic military experiment. Hoping to find him alive, Ava joins a ‘body retrieval unit,’ but her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses sheโ€™s burying start showing signs of life.”

Deadline’s announcement seems to go out of its way not to use the term “zombies” (there’s just that one mention of “the undead”), but we’ll concede that “survival thriller featuring the undead” sounds a bit more refined than “zombie movie.” Might not be the way we’d choose to phrase it, but then again, we’re FANGORIA.

Hilditch, who also scripted We Bury the Dead, had this to say about his leading lady:

“Having Daisy play the role of Ava is an absolute dream come true. She embodies the perfect mix of vulnerability, grit and determination that Ava exudes throughout the film.โ€

No word on who else might be joining Ridley for We Bury the Dead, nor is there any timeline on when we might actually get to see it (in all likelihood, it’ll be a minute; this one doesn’t start shooting until February), but rest assured that we’re curious to learn more about Hilditch’s latest, and will keep you informed on this one as further updates roll in. Stay tuned, zombie fans!
