David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, The Boogeyman) is adding another string to his much-decorated genre bow with Rosario, a “high-concept horror film” that Variety have revealed exclusively today.
Rosario will mark the feature film debut of Colombian director Felipe Vargas (Milk Teeth), with a script from Alan Trezza (We Summon the Darkness). Alongside Dastmalchian, Rosario also stars Josรฉ Zรบรฑiga (Twilight), Diana Lein (Fear the Walking Dead), Paul Ben-Victor (The Irishman), Emilia Faucher (CODA) and Emeraudeย Toubia (Shadowhunters).
Here’s the official plot synopsis, via Variety:
The story, set in New York, revolves around Rosario (Toubia), a successful Wall Street stockbroker who is trapped in her estranged grandmother Griseldaโs apartment during a snowstorm. Griselda has died, and supernatural forces possess her corpse. Rosario, now the target of a deadly family curse, must battle her past to save herself and her soul.
Now, true, we may be a touch biased towards projects involving FANGORIA fave and friend Mr Dastmalchian, but Rosario sounds like a good old-fashioned terrifying time. Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser agrees, stating “We cannot wait for cameras to roll on this smart and chilling film in the vein of the Blumhouse movies.”
Vargas, who went viral with his award-winning horror shortย Milk Teeth, continues to go from strength to strength, named one of 10 Latino Content Creators to Watch by Variety last year and projects in the works with with Paramount, Sony and Lionsgate – including a new Leprechaun movie for which Vargas is also in the director’s chair.
Variety also tells us that Colombian-Venezuelanย cinematographer Carmen Cabana, whose credits include Netflixโs Resident Evil and Narcos will lens the pic.
That’s all we know on the creepy-sounding Rosario for now – but rest assured we’ll be following this one with great interest, and will be bringing you the updates when we get them.
