If you’ve been keeping up with our coverage this week, you know that CinemaCon’s in full swing out in Las Vegas. Every day, one or two major studios takes the stage inside the Caesar’s Palace arena to hype up theater owners from around the country about the many movies headed our way in 2023. New projects are announced, celebrities are paraded around the stage to thunderous applause, and sometimes a studio will even show a whole-ass movie to stoke the crowd’s hype even further.

Yesterday saw Universal taking their turn, in an hours-long presentation that also included a look at what Blumhouse has coming down the pike this year. During that stretch, CEO Jason Blum took the stage alongside David Gordon Green to reveal the title for Green’s forthcoming sequel to The Exorcist as well as the film’s very first trailer.

The title? The Exorcist: Believer.

The trailer? Well, it’s not online yet, so let’s go back and focus on the title.

It’s a good one! Not overly complicated. Speaks to the themes of the franchise. Hell, it even nods to the film’s biggest casting coup – the return of Ellen Burstyn (in her role as Chris MacNeil) to the Exorcist franchise. In Green’s film, MacNeil is sought out by a father played by Leslie Odom Jr., whose daughter (and her best friend) become possessed by a very familiar spirit.

Based on the social media reactions of the attending press, it sounds like The Exorcist: Believer has a very impressive trailer, and we’re hoping we get a peek at that sooner rather than later! Stay tuned for that, and indeed for further updates regarding the film, as further updates roll in.

The Exorcist: Believer hits theaters on October 13th.
