Eight years in and Dead by Daylight is still ensuring that the game has a great deal of value to its loyal fans. To that end, one of the most-requested features is finally coming to the popular online “kill or be killed” game later this month. That’s right! 2v8 mode is finally upon us. Double the people, double the blood, double the fun. For the first time ever, two Killers can team up to hunt eight Survivors, delivering a fresh and frantic take on gameplay for seasoned players. What does that look like? This new trailer offers some idea of the bloody chaos that lies just around the corner.
While I’d personally like to highlight the banging soundtrack accompanying the trailer, the footage gives but a taste of what’s to come. Dead by Daylight’s 2v8 mode was officially announced during Behaviour’s eighth anniversary livestream earlier this year, along with quite a bit else. So, how is this new game mode going to work? The 2v8 Trials will take place across 5 classic maps, each of which has been expanded to accommodate the action. Generators have also been doubled and Survivors now need to repair eight of 13 to escape.
Hooks and Perks will not be included to keep the action flowing. Downed Survivors will be sent directly to Cages, while Survivor Perks will be replaced with a new class system designed to encourage teamwork, with players able to adopt clearer “roles” within a Trial. Instead of Classes, Killers will be given alterations to their Powers, as well as team-based ability to amplify their carnage.
Also a big deal: cross-progression is finally coming to the game on July 22. This has been a long-requested feature. To get in on it, all players need is a Behaviour Account and to own the base game on whichever platforms they wish to progress on. Dead by Daylight’s website and social channels have also shared a chart outlining all platform specifics, as well as an in-depth FAQ for players looking for further details. It is a truly exciting time to enjoy DbD. In the immediate future, the game also has its party mode which is available for a limited time from July 25 to August 8. The Tomb Raider chapter was also recently released, bringing Lara Croft in on the action. Beyond that, the universe is expanding with several new games including The Casting of Frank Stone, which will be a single-player experience. It’s due to hit shelves on September 3. A new mysterious shooter going under the name Project T is also in development.
