Do you like giant shark attack movies? What about films centered on crime in the drug trade? If you answered yes to either or both of these questions, boy do we have the film for you! Gravitas Ventures has just released a new trailer for Deep Fear which, as those queries suggest, will focus on some deadly sharks with drugs thrown in the mix. And yes, the sharks do get hopped up on cocaine. Check it out.
Now, one might hear that premise and assume this is just trying to capitalize on the success that Cocaine Bear enjoyed earlier this year. Not so fast! We already had a movie called Cocaine Shark that did precisely that. This movie isn’t leaning into it quite as hard, nor is it as tongue-in-cheek. Rather, this appears to have a pretty serious tone for the most part, even with the ridiculous nature of what’s going on. The shark effects don’t look too bad and there’s an awful lot going on here. It kind of looks like two movies at once, for better or worse. The official synopsis reads as follows:
“On a journey across the Caribbean to meet her fiancé, an accomplished round-the-world yachtswoman goes to aid a sinking vessel. She finds three survivors who, it transpires, are narcos and force her to dive down into the wreck to retrieve 850 kilos of cocaine. The plan is thwarted by frenzied man-eating tiger sharks who have been attracted to the wreck by the dead bodies.”
The cast is led by Madalina Ghenea (House of Gucci) and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), with Ibrahima Gueye (The Life Ahead), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Stany Coppet (Vikings: Valhalla) rounding out the ensemble. Marcus Adams is in the director’s chair, working from a screenplay by Robert Capelli Jr and Sophia Eptamenitis. Producer Sean O’Kelly had this to say about the film a couple of weeks back in a press release:
“We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Danielle and the talented team at Gravitas to bring Deep Fear to audiences across North America. Deep Fear arrives hot on the heels of the cocaine-shark frenzy, as recently seen off the coast of Florida. Having spent so much time creating the strongest visual effects, we can’t wait to share it.”
