And the good news just keeps on comin’. Hot on the heels of the news that Lauren Ambrose would be joining the cast of Showtime’s outstanding Yellowjackets comes the reveal that none other than Elijah Wood (Grand Piano, Maniac, The Good Son) will also be climbing aboard the show’s second season.

The news comes to us from Deadline, who have the following description of the character Wood will be playing: “Wood will play Walter, a dedicated citizen detective who will challenge Misty (Christina Ricci) in ways she wonโ€™t see coming.” Oh, man. These two are gonna play off each other like gangbusters.

It’s exciting yet also unsurprising to learn that Wood’s getting involved with this one. The first season of Yellowjackets – which revolves around a high school girl’s soccer team that crash lands somewhere in the mountains, the creepy events that occur during their ongoing attempts to survive, and the modern-day, adult versions of those characters (well, some of them, anyway) being blackmailed for whatever the hell went on out there – employed a number of ’90s mainstay actresses for its current-day cast members, including Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey and Juliette Lewis. Like Ambrose, Wood will fit in perfectly with this crew, and lord knows the guy’s no stranger to the horror/thriller genre.

Another fun bonus: this doubles as a reunion of sorts for Wood and Lynskey, who previously starred together in Macon Blair’s excellent I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore. Definitely give that one a watch (or rewatch!) while you’re waiting on Yellowjackets S2 to arrive.

Nothing further to report at this time, but rest assured the entire FANGORIA crew is keeping tabs on this show’s second season. Many more updates to come, folks. Stay tuned!
