Just a couple of months after the news that Sébastien Vaniček (Infested) is directing a new and nasty Evil Dead movie comes the exciting news that ANOTHER Evil Dead movie is in the works – this time from The Last Stop in Yuma County director and writer Francis Galluppi.
Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, tell us that the project (made for Evil Dead OG Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures) is “an original story that Galluppi developed and brought to Raimi and team”, with no word just yet on a plot or who will be producing or starring.
In a statement, Raimi expressed his excitement for the upcoming latest addition to his iconic franchise:
Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence. He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.
Given the success of Lee Cronin‘s Evil Dead Rise, it’s no wonder that Raimi and crew want to stay working with the stand-alone spin-off approach that explores the Deadite-infested universe. Not to mention, Evil Dead king Bruce Campbell has already teased that the series is set to expand “every two or three years” – putting Galluppi’s take on a very pleasing timeline.
Pound for pound, the Evil Dead franchise is arguably one of the most successful horror franchises out there, both commercially and critically, with the original trilogy alone of Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness grossing a collective $300 million worldwide. Add to that the hilarious Ash vs Evil Dead series, Fede Álvarez’s grisly 2013 reboot and the aforementioned Evil Dead Rise, and Vaniček and Galluppi have some pretty big shoes to fill!
No more news on the upcoming Evil Deads for now, but you know we’ll bring you all the groovy news as and when we get it!
