Legendary British horror studio Hammer are back from the dead with Doctor Jekyll, a modern twist on the critically adored tale starring comedy-acting icon Eddie Izzard (Hannibal, Valkyrie) – and we’ve got an exclusive trailer today to further introduce you to the good doctor herself.
Directed by Joe Stephenson (Chicken, McKellen: Playing The Partand), Doctor Jekyll marks the first release from Hammer following its acquisition by theater and entertainment mogul John Gore, and had its world premiere at London’s FrightFest last year.
Alongside Izzard, Doctor Jekyll stars Scott Chambers (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2) and stage and screen stalwart Lindsay Duncan (A Banquet, Birdman).
Written by Dan Kelly-Mulhern in his screenwriting debut, the plot for this adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella looks a little like this…
An isolated mansion, a mysterious locked room, creepy corridors, a dusty cellar and a mad doctor… Hammer horror is back with a modern reimagining of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’. When ex-convict Rob takes the carer position to the infamous Nina Jekyll, little does he know he’s part of an evil master plan devised by her alter ego Rachel Hyde. But to what lengths will Rob go to satisfy his client’s weird wishes and his own ambitions for the daughter he has never even seen?
Doctor Jekyll hits select US theaters and streaming nationwide August 2, so don’t miss it.
