Prior to its international premiere at London’s FrightFest on August 23, we’re excited to bring you a batch of exclusive images from queer horror anthology Hauntology.
Hauntology, which will release in US theaters from September 13, is the debut feature-length film from writer/director Parker Brennon, and stars Naomi Grossman (American Horror Story), Samantha Robinson (The Love Witch, Cam), Zoey Luna (The Craft Legacy) and long-time John Carpenter collaborator Nancy Kyes aka Nancy Loomis (Halloween, Halloween II, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog).
Inย Hauntology:
Twelve-year-old Venus runs away from home, but their journey is cut short when their older sister, Jazmin, spots them wheeling a suitcase down the sidewalk. Jazmin then takes Venus on a journey around Ohio, where Jazmin tells supernatural tales whose characters have more in common with Venus than they first realise. Following in the tradition of classic horror anthologies, Hauntology features four ghostly vignettes, packed with dark magic, vengeful spirits and victorian hauntings.
Hauntologyย had its World Premiere at Los Angeles’ Dance With Films independent film festival last month.
In an interview with Canvas Rebel, Brennon (who is non-binary) spoke on how their queer identity helped to shape their stories andย Hauntology as a whole:
The simplest way to describe myself is an indie filmmaker with an affinity for horror stories. I also have a unique queer perspective. I was assigned male at birth, grew up attracted to men, and eventually identified as non-binary. For queer writers, โoutsiderโ themes come naturally, and Iโm no exception. Over time, I came to identify my writing finger print as stories of queer isolation. Itโs an idea I come back to over and over again.
If you’re heading to FrightFest, don’t missย Hauntologyย on the Main Screen on Friday 23 August, and if you’re in the US, look out for Hauntology at a theater near you in September.
