R.L. Stine, the legendary author behind Goosebumps and Fear Street, is getting meta by making an appearance as himself in the upcoming issue of the horror comic book miniseries True Believers. The second issue, which has launched a Kickstarter campaign, will feature Stine as himself in a cameo appearance in the book itself, in addition to being featured on a variant cover. Today, we bring you an exclusive look at Stineโs appearance in the book. Check it out below.ย
The above art depicts Stineโs cameo in the book itself. The three-issue miniseries is co-written by Stephen Graham Jones (Donโt Fear the Reaper) and Joshua Viola (Nightmares Unhinged), featuring artwork by Ben Matsuya (Midnight Massacre). The series takes place at the Colorado Festival of Horror, diving into the world of cosplay and fan conventions. So it only feels natural that Stine, one of the formative voices in the world of horror, would be involved. Other big names from the world of horror will be making appearances in the book as well. The official synopsis for the second issue reads as follows:ย
โIn True Believers #2, a year has passed since the harrowing events of issue 1, which introduced readers to the bone-chilling slasher character, Killrโข. Now a mysterious new figure emerges, adopting the enigmatic Killrโข personaโbut is it just another obsessive fan or a new threat on the horizon? Brace yourself for a rollercoaster of suspense and humor with a fresh ensemble of characters. With new mysteries, hilarious gags, and an extra dose of blood, issue 2 promises a thrilling ride for both seasoned fans and newcomers alike.โ
โNothing better than being at a horror convention, and the Colorado Festival of Horror does it right,โ said Stephen Graham Jones. โOnly thing better might beโฆI don’t know. Maybe being there and feeling like you’re walking through the panels of a slasher comic book?”
Last year, we brought you a look at True Believers #1, with a preview of the book available to those who attended the Colorado Festival of Horror.ย The second issue features lettering by Jeremiah Lambert and variant covers by a slew of exciting artists soon to be revealed. The first issue absolutely blew by its funding goal on Kickstarter, raising $14,500 of a $2,500 goal.
