A Kentucky filmmaking team has wrapped up a killer New Year’s Eve party in the dead of summer. Directors P.J. Starks (who also scripted) and Eric Huskisson have given FANGORIA the first look at the trailer for New Fears Eve, which they produced with actor/Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick and co-stars Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan. The cast also includes Hannah Fierman (V/H/S), Lily Claire Harvey, Jay Woolston, Alyssa Rhoads, Roni Jonah, Turner Vaughn and Jesse MacDonald as the black-clad psycho, The Doctor. It’s the latest fright film from Starks and Huskisson’s Blood Moon Pictures, whose previous titles include Volumes of Blood: Horror Stories and 13 Slays Till X-Mas.
The synopsis: “As the coming year approaches, three best friends reluctantly prepare for Hooper Industries’ annual New Year’s Eve bash. The clock ticks down and the body count rises as a psychotic murderer known as The Doctor is on the loose. This sadistic surgeon of death leaves Owensboro covered in blood as local police and FBI are forced to navigate through a maze of bodies left in his wake. Unbeknownst to the three best friends, their mandatory party is about to turn deadly when the killer sets his sights on them. December 31 becomes a party to die for when Leslie, Brian, Moses and their colleagues are trapped inside an inescapable building with a bloodthirsty madman hellbent on carving his way to midnight.”
“We wrapped the major bulk of filming on July 9, which was a whirlwind of a weekend,” Starks tells us. “Scene 58 was our equivalent of Scene 118. By the time it was over, we were all exhausted but excited. Now we’re moving into postproduction, and the trailer will give everyone a solid idea of what to expect. Especially the scope of the project, as it’s our biggest production yet—and this trailer doesn’t even show everything.
“The support for New Fears Eve has been incredible,” he continues. “We don’t want to let anyone down, which means doing things the right way. Because this project represents a lot of firsts, we wanted to send the movie off for color grading and to have a proper sound mix. That takes capital. We also have a lot of cool items left over from production that will look better sitting on someone’s shelf at home than it will in storage, which is why we’re launching this finishing funds campaign. It gives anyone who’s been part of the journey one last opportunity to get some cool stuff and help us get this project completed the right way.”
“We’re at the beginning of the next phase for New Fears Eve,” adds Huskisson. “It’s bittersweet because we couldn’t wait to start filming, and now we’re wrapped. We’ve also secured a composer who we’ll be announcing at a later date.”
Reddick, who also hails from Kentucky, has very much enjoyed his first collaboration with the Blood Moon team. “There’s such wealth of talented filmmakers in Kentucky,” he says. “Especially within the horror genre, which I love to support. I’ve been a longtime fan of P.J.’s, and when I saw what he and Eric were creating with New Fears Eve, I wanted to be a part of it. The project is definitely a labor of love, and I think it’s going to deliver all the thrills, chills and bloody fun. That’s indie horror at its finest.”
