Fall - Lionsgate

Fall 2, the sequel to 2022’s surprise low-budget hit Fall, has taken a major step forward. Capstone Studios has revealed that Jigsaw directors Michael and Peter Spierig, aka the Spierig Brothers, have been tapped to helm the sequel. Per a press release, they will be working closely with Scott Mann, who directed the first installment in what is now going to be a trilogy. Mann, it was previously announced, will return to co-write and direct the eventual Fall 3

Mann is returning to co-write Fall 2 with Jonathan Frank, who penned the original. The sequel is due to begin filming in June. It is not yet clear who will star in the follow-up but Capstone says that it “will bring back original characters from the first film, while also leaving room for new ones to be introduced.” Given the original’s minimal cast, the options are limited. There’s good money on Grace Caroline Currey’s Becky returning. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played her father, is a possibility as well. Mann had this to say about it:

“I am so proud to hand over the reins to the Spierigs, two highly respected genre directors whose addition will undoubtedly make this follow-up even more of a must-see experience than we already knew it would be. I can’t wait for Flawless to work alongside them, and the rest of our fantastic filmmaking team, to take the Fall franchise to epic new heights.”

Fall was a sleeper hit, taking in nearly $22 million worldwide against a mere $3 million budget. While a sequel was quickly announced, Capstone doubled down by announcing a full Fall trilogy last year. Mark Lane, James Harris, Christian Mercuri, David Haring and Mann are returning to produce. Dan Asma, John Long, Roman Viaris and Ruzanna Kegeyan are set as executive producers.

“We’re extremely excited to helm the second installment of this franchise and bring to life another nail biting, vertigo inducing thrill ride,” said the Spierig Brothers.

Michael and Peter Spierig are no strangers to genre filmmaking, having helmed films like the zombie flick Undead and Daybreakers. They also have the underrated time travel flick Predestination to their name, as well as Winchester, which starred Helen Mirren as Sarah Winchester. But their biggest hit to date is 2017’s Jigsaw, which helped revive the Halloween tradition that is Saw
