Sometimes a deeply unexpected announcement comes seemingly outta nowhere and really knocks you back on your heels. Such is the case today, with a new Deadline report announcing that, during the pandemic, Fast and Furious franchise star Sung Kang (y’know, Han!) spent five months at a decommissioned Girl Scout camp making a horror comedy by the name of Shaky Shivers. If you were already aware of this one, well, we’re only just hearing about it … and are very intrigued!
So, what’s it about? Says Deadline:
“Shaky Shivers takes viewers to an abandoned camp where two young women, played by Brooke Markham (In the Dark) and VyVy Nguyen (The Sympathizer), stumble upon a book of magical spells. Surrounded by classic monsters and drawing inspiration from โ80s horror films, Karen and Lucy find themselves facing a series of supernatural occurrences after a fateful encounter with an old woman. As zombies, werewolves and BigFoot wreak havoc, the duo must navigate a wild night, armed with an unfamiliar spell book, to restore order before their lives unravel completely.”
Even better: Cinedigm has snatched up Kang’s film for distribution, with an eye towards putting the film in theaters this fall before it heads off to horror-streamer SCREAMBOX.
About the acquisition, Kang says:
“Cinedigm knows the horror space so well, so as a first-time filmmaker, Iโm grateful to know weโre in great hands. Itโs been a great festival run thus far with the film, finding our audiences who have loved the film at the screenings. Winning the Grand Jury Award at Gasparilla blew my mind. The whole idea was to make this for the old school horror hounds and for them to share it with their families today. Little by little, weโre doing that. I couldnโt be more excited about rolling this film out.โ
We’re always down for new monster movies, especially when they include Bigfoot and particularly when they are directed by one of our favorite Fast and Furious cast members. We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for more about Shaky Shivers as we work its way towards its arrival in theaters. Until then, sit tight, and stand by for more on this one as soon as further updates become available.
