At long last, the long-awaited new entry in the Final Destination franchise is underway, and it has a new title as well. Producer Craig Petty took to social media this week (via Bloody Disgusting) to reveal that the movie has indeed begun filming. He didnโ€™t reveal much by way of specifics, but he did confirm that the movie will be hitting theaters next year, and with a title that may sound familiar to horror lovers.

Perry posted an image of a chair from the set with the title Final Destination: Bloodlines. Yes, some of you may well be aware that a movie named Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was released in 2023 on Paramount+. โ€œI know, I know โ€” Pet Sematary: Bloodlines,โ€ Perry said in his post before adding, โ€œBut this is the title weโ€™ve had for three years, and weโ€™re keeping itโ€ฆ for now.โ€ So, maybe that title will stick, or maybe it wonโ€™t, but they apparently had this title in mind long before last yearโ€™s Stephen King adaptation copped it. Perry also had the following to say:

โ€œAfter a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can. 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment in the franchise. To honor the occasion with another worldwide theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing. See you next year!

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks) are in the directorโ€™s chair for the sixth Final Destination film, with Jon Watts, who directed Marvelโ€™s recent blockbuster Spider-Man trilogy, on board to produce. Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Scream VI) penned the screenplay. Plot details currently remain under wraps, but franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick explained back in 2022 that this new installment will change up the familiar formula.

“I will say that it’s not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.’ And there’s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit: this one is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established… I think I can say that much.”

No word yet on who is starring in this one. It will be the first entry in the series since Final Destination 5 arrived back in 2011. The movies, generally speaking, involve someone having a premonition about death, allowing them to cheat it – that is until death circles back around to kill those who should have died. The five films in the franchise have, to date, grossed more than $650 million at the global box office.

Final Destination: Bloodlines does not currently have a release date but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.
