Last month, we learned that the long-awaited The Strangers reboot from Lionsgate would be a trilogy – and today brings a set of new stills that give us our first glimpse of the terrifying masked murderers in The Strangers: Chapter 1.

Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea, Die Hard 2) is directing the trilogy, which stars Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Froy Gutierrez (Hocus Pocus 2) as a young couple terrorized by mysterious err, strangers:

The remake centers on a couple (Petsch and Gutierrez) who drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, theyโ€™re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers.

Alan R. Cohenย andย Alan Freedlandย (The Freak Brothers,ย Due Date) wrote the script, adapting the story from Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion classic.

In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Harlin expanded on his history with the film and his decision to reimagine the story as a trilogy:

“I didn’t really know anything about it when I saw it and I just loved it. I thought it was fantastic and it’s stuck in my mind as one of my favorite horror films […] When this opportunity came to me, the idea of not doing a remake or a reboot but doing a trilogy based on the original film, I thought it was an incredible opportunity,”

The Strangers: Chapter 1 will hit theaters in 2024 – in the meantime, here’s our first look at what looks like a deceptively cozy night, the calm before the storm, and the creepy reimagining of Dollface and the Man in the Mask above…
