Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice sequel, ingeniously titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has been a long time coming. So long, in fact, that many of us had given up hope that it even existed. That all changes today, with our first look at Michael Keaton as the titular ghost with the most.
Revealed exclusively by Entertainment Weekly earlier today, the new pics also give us a first look at the iconic Winona Ryder returning to her role as Lydia Deetz, and Scream queen Jenna Ortega (returning to collaborate with Burton after the hugely successful Wednesday) as Lydia’s daughter Astrid.
Alongside Keaton, Ryder and Ortega, Catherine O’Hara is returning, and new additions to the cast include the great Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux as the mysterious Rory, who can be seen in the picture below.
Hitting theaters with a release date of September 6, 2024, the sequel to the 1988 horror comedy classic apparently kicks off with “a death in the family”, according to Burton, which would explain why the Deetz clan are looking even more Gothic than usual. Aside from this teaser, plot details are still firmly under wraps.
Last month, Keaton (who looks like he never even took the suit off) teased that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is light on CGI and heavy on the practical effects, just like its puppet-filled predecessor.
A trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will almost certainly be along shortly – watch this space!
