Sickos rejoice! Today, Prime Video have released the teaser trailer for the highly anticipated psychological thriller Dead Ringers, a modern take on David Cronenbergโs 1988 cult classic that sees the iconic Rachel Weisz star as twin doctors with a very dark side.
The series – which will premiere April 21 exclusively on Prime Video – follows:
Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takesโincluding pushing the boundaries of medical ethicsโin an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring womenโs health care to the forefront.
Alongside Weisz, Dead Ringers boasts a stacked ensemble cast including Britne Oldford (The Umbrella Academy, American Horror Story: Asylum), Poppy Liu (Hacks, Better Call Saul), Michael Chernus (Severance, Orange is the New Black), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, Saint Maud) and Emily Meade (The Deuce, The Leftovers).
And if that wasn’t enough to get you pumped, the Dead Ringers directing team will see Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, Yellowjackets), Karena Evans (P-Valley, Snowfall) and Lauren Wolkstein (The Strange Ones) bringing this tale of twin terror to life. Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Nest, The Iron Claw) is up first, having directed the first two episodes and co-directed the last episode of the series. Durkin also serves as an executive producer, as does Weisz herself.
The limited series was created, written, and also executive produced by Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch (Normal People, Succession, The Wonder). In an interview with British Vogue, Weisz elaborates on the instant creative chemistry that sparked between her and Birch, and how she knew to bring her onboard as show runner: “We had a very brief phone call at first, and instinctively it was just like,ย yes […] It instantly felt like we were going to go on a journey together โ and we certainly have been.โ
So without further ado, please enjoy the first poster and teaser below for Dead Ringers, paying homage to the sinister red scrubs of the original, and soundtracked by fellow Cronenbabe Debbie Harry’s Blondie hit Heart of Glass. Make sure you’re following the doctors’ orders by tuning in on April 21!:
