The first trailer for Justin Simien’s Haunted Mansion has just arrived, and … well, look, that’s what you came here to see. We’ll get out of its way and let you watch it before we move on.
This looks like a lot of fun, and lord knows Simien knows how to make a damn good movie (check out Dear White People, thank us later). It’s also sporting a massively talented cast, with folks like LaKeith Stanfield, Winona Ryder, Tiffany Haddish,ย Owen Wilson,ย Rosario Dawson,ย Danny DeVito, and newly-minted Academy Award nominee Jamie Lee Curtis (as the iconic Madame Leota) in the mix.
Here’s an official plot synopsis:
โIn this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).โ
And here’s Justin Simien talking about the film via press release:
โAs a lifelong fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction, Iโm beyond excited to share the teaser trailer for our new film adaptation featuring an incredible cast. Our team has worked tirelessly to create a scary, funny and cinematic otherworldly adventure for both new and die-hard fans to enjoy! I canโt wait for audiences to experience this big screen version of the iconic Disney attraction.โ
Yeah, in between Simien’s talents, the sprawling cast of characters, the cast that’s been hired to portray them, the tone of the trailer above, and a script written by Kate Dippold, we think it’s safe to say we’ll be checking out Haunted Mansion just as soon as it hits theaters on July 28th. Stay tuned for more on this one between now and the movie’s arrival!
