Freddy Fazbear and co are set to return in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which, as of today, has an official release date of December 5, 2025.
Variety report that Universal and Blumhouse, who announced the news today, have also shifted the dates of two of their most highly-anticipated horror sequels, M3GAN 2.0 and The Black Phone 2.
M3GAN 2.0 will now release on May 16, 2025 instead of the formally announced date of June 27, 2025, while The Black Phone 2 has moved from June 27, 2025 to Oct. 17, 2025.
Universal and Blumhouse’s 2025 calendar is looking to be shaping up nicely, with Deadline also reporting that The Woman in the Yard is now set for March 28, 2025, and Drop for April 11, 2025.
Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s was a huge financial hit for Blumhouse, racking up $297 million globally and subsequently becoming Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film of all time. Starring Josh Hutcherson and scream king Matthew Lillard, the movie (based on the indie horror game hit by Scott Cawthon) followed a security guard working the night shift at an abandoned pizza parlour full of murderous animatronics, created by Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop.
Given the huge financial box office success despite the film streaming simultaneously on Peacock, a sequel was pretty much a guarantee (with Lillard previously letting slip that he had signed on for a three-picture deal…), but whether or not the previous cast will be returning has yet to be confirmed.
As for M3GAN 2.0, the latest news we have on the sequel is that Ahsoka breakout star Ivanna Sakhno has joined the cast in an unknown but “major part”, joining returning stars Allison Williams (Get Out) and Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) . Given M3GAN‘s box office success back in 2022 (the mini murderer racked up a cool $180 million globally), a second part of the story was all but greenlit before we’d even left the theater. This date shift marks the second time M3GAN 2.0 has been pushed back (which we can’t imagine she’s all too happy about…)
And The Black Phone 2? Another big hit for Blumhouse, clocking $160 million worldwide back in 2022. Returning for the sequel are stars Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora, as Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are bringing The Grabber back for round two – although plot details are still firmly under wraps.
We’ll bring you all the updates on these much-anticipated sequels as and when we get them.
