Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s was a gigantic success for the folks at Blumhouse. Armed with a $20M production budget and the animatronic backing of Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop, Tammi delivered a film that played like gangbusters to the loyal legion of fans who’d grown up playing the Five Nights at Freddy’s games and racked up nearly $300M worldwide in the process.

With success like that, you’d think a sequel would have been announced after the film’s first gargantuan opening weekend. Not so! For reasons that remain unclear, the assumed-but-still-unannounced sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s is still not officially greenlit…though a recent post from Jason Blum on Twitter indicates that we might be getting one in the none too distant future.

That, as Blum has correctly noted in his tweet, is a photo of a hardworking employee at Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop putting together…something. The tweet doesn’t confirm what it is, and I suppose there’s an argument to be made that they could be working on quite literally anything animatronic-related for a future Blumhouse title (or any title; technically-speaking, Blum’s post does not say this work is being done on behalf of one of his company’s films), but let’s be realistic here.

(If “being realistic here” doesn’t cut the mustard for you, it appears an eagle-eyed commenter underneath this tweet has spotted something in the bottom left-hand corner of the photo above indicating that, yes, in fact, this is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2-related.)

It’ll be interesting to see when Blumhouse announces Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but it’ll be just as interesting to find out why that announcement has taken so long. Stay tuned for further updates on this situation as they occur but, in the meantime, go ahead and place your bets on Five Nights at Freddy’s having an announced sequel sooner rather than later.
