Who’s ready for a pizza party? After years of waiting, we finally get our first peek at Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie thanks to the yesterday’s first trailer drop.
Starring Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games franchise), Elizabeth Lail (You), Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy, Unstable), Kat Conner Sterling (We Have a Ghost), Mary Stuart Masterson (Blindspot) and Scream king Matthew Lillard, Five Nights at Freddyโs is directed by Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon). Tammi also co-wrote alongside FNAF franchise creator Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.
If you’re not familiar with the giant, media-spanning horror phenomenon that is Five Nights at Freddy’s, the first film in what could potentially become a three-movie franchise loosely adapts the plot of the original 2014 point-and-click game:
The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbearโs Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddyโs wonโt be so easy to make it through.
It’s a simple yet effectively terrifying premise, and if this 90’s-vibed teaser is anything to go by, it looks like we’re in for another Blumhouse mega hit:
The filmโs iconic animatronic characters – who we can see terrorizing innocent children in the trailer, and in the posters below – were bought to life by the legendary Jim Hensonโs Creature Shop. Game fans will of course be able to recognize the malevolent mascots, but for those who don’t know, we’re introduced to the eponymous Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy.
Given that Universal Pictures will release Blumhouseโsย Five Nights at Freddyโsย in theaters on October 27 (with a same day-and-date streaming premiere on Peacock), you better get well-acquainted with these characters because we suspect you’ll be seeing a LOT of them come Halloween:
