Erik Bloomquist’s Founders Day is one of the horror films we’re most looking forward to in 2024, a satirical, political slasher about a series of sinister killings striking a small town on the eve of its tricentennial celebration/impending mayoral election. Who’s the masked slasher responsible for these murders, and who will survive long enough to cast their vote? We can’t wait to find out!
If that description leads you to believe Founders Day will be up your alley, as well (and assuming you’re within traveling distance of Washington, D.C.), the folks behind the film have announced a very special event that’ll be taking place at the U.S. Capitol on (when else?) January 6th. That’s this Saturday!
On hand at this event will be Founders Day stars Amy Hargreaves and Jayce Bartok, appearing in character as Mayor Blair Gladwell and challenger Harold Faulkner, respectively. At 12PM EST, they’ll be by the Area 15 reflecting pool debating the “Change vs. Consistency” platforms their characters espouse in Bloomquist’s film, and engaging interested attendees in on-camera conversations about the substance of those platforms. Sounds like this event will really be leaning into Founders Day‘s satirical nature (there may also be, ahem, a photo opp with a certain masked slasher against the backdrop of D.C., but don’t quote us on that), which sounds like a good time to us!

“Founders Day is a satirical contemporary murder-mystery set in a small town that is stricken by ominous killings on the eve of its tricentennial celebration and impending mayoral election.
The latest feature from fraternal writing-director duo Erik and Carson Bloomquist and production outfit Mainframe Pictures boasts an ensemble cast including the reunion of 13 Reasons Why stars Devin Druid and Amy Hargreaves, plus Naomi Grace (NCIS), Catherine Curtin (Stranger Things), Emilia McCarthy (SkyMed), Olivia Nikkanen (The Society) and William Russ (Boy Meets World).”
While the event above is happening this Saturday, January 6th, Founders Day itself will hit theaters on January 19th.
